Screening Process

Once you contact us and express an interest in one of our facilities, GEMS will start with a careful screening process. You will have the opportunity to speak with Dr. Yates, our corporate medical director, Terri Serwacki, our CEO and the medical director at the facility where you are interested in working. We do this because each facility has a distinct personality, just as you do, and it is our goal to take the steps we feel are necessary to assure your successful placement at one of our facilities.

This part of the process will require you to fill out a considerable amount of paperwork and supply us with certain documentation. We recognize that the paperwork required by hospitals, malpractice carriers, third party payers and regulatory agencies is cumbersome. Please be assured that our staff will make every effort to assist you through this part of the process as painlessly as possible.

You’ll be given the opportunity to tour the facility you have chosen to work at and to meet with GEMS medical director at that facility. Some of the hospital staff may also want to meet you. You will also be required to work an orientation shift with the medical director or another long-term physician at the facility. We take these steps to help assure we are placing you at a facility where you will feel comfortable working.

You should also take comfort in knowing that GEMS has extensive risk management, performance improvement and continuous quality improvement programs at each of our facilities. This means that you will receive regular feedback on programs in place at the facility where you will be working. It also means that we work in conjunction with our facilities and our physician staff to develop treatment protocols and best practice standards. You will also receive regular education and information from GEMS management on items of interest and that impact on the way you will practice medicine.
